Mukuzani is a red dry vintage wine made from the Saperavi grape variety grown in the area of the village of Mukuzani, the microzone is located in the Alazani Valley on an area of 148 hectares. Compared to other wines made from the same grape variety, Mukuzani is aged in oak barrels for at least two years.
Mukuzani wine has a rich deep red color, as well as a mild flavor of berries and oak, while berry and oak aromas are not immediately felt. Long aging makes the taste of Mukuzani more complex than that of other wines made from Saperavi grapes. It goes well with meat dishes. The alcohol content in aged wine is 10.5–12.5%, and its titratable acidity is 6.0–7.0%. Mukuzani began to be produced in 1888.
It is considered the best Georgian wine among those produced from Saperavi. During international competitions he managed to get 9 gold, 2 silver and 3 bronze medals. By the law of Georgia of 2010 on the controlled regions of origin of wines, the name Mukuzani is included in the list of appellations (appellation is a clearly delineated territory within which a unique ecosystem (climate, soil, wind, humidity) has developed) of Georgia and wine producers cannot use it outside of a specific geographical region.
